Supanova

Along my harrowing trek to find employment I decided to take up some volunteer positions.  Last weekend I volunteered at Supanova and had a blast.  I tried to take some pictures but most of them came out really blurry (shaky hands), here are some discernible ones.

I was in the AV/tech department, spent most of my time watching anime in the Madman room.

Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks.
 Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

So tempted to play with the sound board, DJ this shit up.

David Hasselhoff did a seminar.  There were some other celebs too but it was hard to get good photos from the back.

Cosplay Competition.  There were so many insanely good cosplayers, but my camera ran out of battery, so I've only taken a few photos.

Center hall, with 2 more smaller ones behind this one.  Approximately 40,000 entries this year.

The battle everyone was waiting for.

League of tards.

If you don't know who this is, we can not be friends.

The TARDIS was somewhat disappointing.

Only 1 of 2 Gintama cosplayers.  The other was a poor attempt at Gin, not worthy of a photo.

Overall the event was really fun.  Plenty of free time between shifts to walk around.  Twas a shame that most of the photos I took were total shit.

At least my list of 'new things I've done' is growing, hopefully the second half of the year leads me to find more opportunities to explore life.  Thanks for reading and fingers crossed for a speedy Gintama resumption.

Playing Ultimate Frisbee

I decided one of the new things I'd do this year would be to start playing a sport.  I saw a poster about 'joining a university team' and ultimate frisbee caught my eye.  I've been training with Mac for about 3 months now and it's fucking awesome.

Recently I finished playing my first hat tournament.  At the end of the group stages our team came last, but that set us up to play the first ranked team in the quarter final; time for some big upsets?.  Without much hope or optimism, we went in expecting to get slaughtered, but only lost by 1 point.  Ended up being one of the most exciting games I've ever played.  Interestingly, the two teams who made the grand final were the only teams we beat all tournament.

Even more recently I was persuaded to play at Bathurst.  On paper, going to the middle of nowhere  for a whole weekend when it was around 14 degrees and I had 3 assignments due didn't sound like a good idea.  It was the best idea.  We arrived on a Friday night and I played beer pong for the first time and lost very badly.  On Saturday I played more games than I thought I could physically play but it was still so fun.  Mac didn't have enough people so I played with Sydney Uni and they are an awesome bunch of people.  Saturday night was party time, unfortunately after a few drinks it was sleeping time. Sadly I forgot to bring my camera (again) so I don't have any photos of anything.  I do remember waking up in the bar to many people taking photos of me so I guess there are some photos floating around the internet.

So having never really played any sports before, I decided to play Ultimate Frisbee as part of my big year.  Turned out so much better than I could ever imagine.  The games are fun, parties are great and the people are amazing.  Recently I reached into a toilet full of vomit to grab a cup.  I'm so glad of all the scenes in Trainspotting that was the one I somewhat re-enacted.  And every time I pass out I seem to wake up to people taking pictures of me, I must be getting famous on Snapchat or whatever social networking young people are into these days.

Anyways, I've started a new chapter in my life, lets see where it takes me.
